President Mohamed Farmaajo orchestrated a coup Monday morning but failed, Prime Minister Mohamed Roble has said in a bitter response and called on the outgoing president to step down.
Roble said in a video statement from his office that the move to block him from accessing his office was another attempt by Farmaajo to ensure a continued stay in power.
He urged Farmaajo to step aside and compete like other presidential candidates.
Roble further said he will not allow Farmaajo to undermine the elections noting he is in charge and will ensure it is concluded soon.
The PM also ordered security forces not to be loyal to Farmaajo as he was a former president.
The PM’s stern remarks follow a series of exchanges with Farmaajo which began last week. Security forces allied to Farmaajo blocked the PM from accessing his office within Villa Somalia in the morning.
The PM however managed to access the office on foot alongside ministers and his deputy Mahdi Guled.
